Hismones 1/08/25

Maybe it is okay to pray for healing. I was at www.milestonechurch.com 's Prepare event this evening, and the speaker commented that while God's character and personality are unchanging, his actions are unpredictable. On a couple of occasions, Jesus healed everyone who came to him; on another, he must have stepped over or around people hoping for healing at a pool in order to heal one. In the Old Testament, King Hezekiah learned he had a terminal illness but cried out to God and was given another 15 years. God doesn't change, but he can change his mind, or our prayers would be meaningless. Any healing is temporary: Jesus resurrected Jairus' daughter and Lazarus, but both died eventually. Until he returns, we have to leave this life behind to join him. Jesus most often healed to prove a point, that he was authorized to forgive sins and that everything he did was to bring glory to God his Father. So I will pray for healing and, like Jesus's prayer that last night in the Garden, trust that God knows and will do the best for me but ultimately to fulfill his purposes and that he receives glory. Another aspect of prayer: how may I pray for you? One of the unique practices that Fred "Mr." Rogers had was to ask those enduring illness and disease to pray for him, because he believed they were in closer relationship to God due to those challenges. I expect that I'll be spending more time in prayer and will be honored to join you in praying for whatever is especially important to you. 1. I am a faithful believer but I sometimes wonder about prayer. I know it avails much; the bible tells me so. But I also know God already knows. I know that sometimes He rules in our favor and other times not how we wish at the moment. I know that in the end, He redeems—whether we pray once or a million times a day.
I read a good reminder yesterday: God would not tell us to pray if it didn't make a difference.

    1. "We know that when we pray according to his will, he hears us." But how do we know whether our healing is his will? Some years ago, I stopped praying that my adult daughters would be happy but rather that they be conformed to the image of his Son, asking that their re-direction not be so severe, if possible. God has been answering that prayer because they are actively expressing their faith again and helping their children to know God 's love. I have trouble praying for myself, but I distinctly remember praying decades ago while going through divorce, "God, please don't let me go through this much pain without learning something." I want God to receive glory through me, however that must take place. My current suffering is not from the disease but only gentle side effects from the medication. However this illness and treatment progress, I commit to declare that God is good, generous, kind, and more than able to hold me in his hands. --Jim E.
